Only one of the three Sussex athletes representing Great Britain at the European under-23 Championships in Gåvle, Sweden was in action today on day one of the competition.
Former Brighton & Hove AC athlete Cameron Fillery, who is from Saltdean, won his heat of the 110m hurdles in 14.05s to place him as second fastest qualifier overall for Friday’s semi-final. Fillery broke the Sussex record last month when he ran 13.67s in Switzerland.
Brighton Phoenix athletes Spencer Thomas, who is competing in the 800m and Toby Harries, who two years ago was the European under-20 champion over 200m, both have their first rounds tomorrow. Like Fillery, Harries broke the Sussex record in June, at the nationals when he ran 20.75s.
The European under-23 championships is from 11th -14th July 2019
