Race Walking in Sussex – Teams

Sussex has a rich history in Race Walking, both on road and track. The county has produced Olympic, Commonwealth and many International walkers and continues to generate national and international champions.

Races take place in Sussex mainly at Steyning for road and Horsham for the track. There are events at the Veterans and Track and Field Leagues as well as many in the London region. More recently athletes are race walking at the popular Park Runs.

Walking is a very friendly and sociable sport and always gives a warm welcome to newcomers. Coaching takes place weekly on Thursday evenings at the Lewes Track and elsewhere as required. Steyning AC and Lewes have qualified walking coaches. For more information contact Peter Selby by clicking here or telephone 07721747999.

Historically Sussex has produced two Olympic walking Champions in George Larner 1908  and Norman Read 1956
