Under-13 Dulcie Yelling's 44.02m, British Age Group, javelin record was undoubtedly the highlight of the YDL fixtures, but there were many promising performances from young Sussex athletes and division wins for Crawley and Lewes.
In the Premier 2 match at Southampton, Crawley AC dominated with a final total of 546 points to Southampton's 477.5 and Brighton's 469.5.
Apart from Yelling's javelin, other leading performances in this fixture included Crawley's under-15, Michelle Okorie's 11.40m shot win, James Pratt's javelin throw of 47.26m and a 1.65m High Jump by Will Sutton. The Wormley twins, Lauren and Charlotte, who are at the bottom of the U15 age group, both won their individual races over 800m and 1500m in times of 2:22.2 and 4:54 respectively.
Three Sussex clubs were in action in the East 2 division fixture hosted by Ashford at the Julie Rose Stadium in Kent. The Lewes AC team was in the tightest battle of the day and beat Newham and Essex Beagles by just one point, for the win with 551. East Grinstead were 5th with 328 points and Hastings 208 score line gave them 7th place. Highlights of this match were the pole vault wins for Emilie Oakden and Amelia Hatchard with 3.00m and 2.80m.
In the West 2 division in their home fixture at Havant, solid performances all round gave Chichester second place with 435 points, behind winners Winchester (682). Worthing were 6th with 272 points.
At Walton in the West 1 match, Horsham Blue Stars were 5th with 387 points behind winners Dorset, who scored 598. Under-13 Madeleine Way ran a swift 20.30 seconds - 150m and 11.70 seconds 70m hurdles for second place in both events.
