Master’s Champs at Coombe Farm

17 January, 2019 By Sussex AA

Sussex try out a new cross-country course this weekend when the Sussex Masters Championships are held at Coombe Farm near Lancing on Saturday.

As the popularity of Cross-country racing has increased in Sussex over the past few years officials are eagerly searching for more courses for the Championship and League events which involve athletes in five age group at six fixtures between October and March each year.

Entries are good and all athletes this year will run a 5-mile course starting with the over M50/M60 men’sage group at 1.00.

Both Arena 80’s Caroline Hoyte and Julie Briggs are entered to race in the W35/45/55 groups who will race together at 1.40 and although both are in the W45 age group should they race it is unlikely that anyone is likely to finish ahead of them.

The M40 race with start at 2.25 and entries include and the battle here is expected to be, should they race, between Neil Boniface (Crawley), Howard Bristow (Brighton & Hove),  and Chichester’s James Baker, who finished in that order at the County senior championship at the beginning of the year over a longer course. The money however will be on Boniface.

South of England U20/Senior indoor Championships.

The South of England Senior and U20 Indoor championships are being held at Lee Valley where Sussex athletes will be hoping to add to the tally of medals they won at the U15/U17/U13 championships last weekend.

Steyning 15km walk.

The annual Steyning 15km road walk, which was scheduled for this weekend has had to be postponed.
