Sussex youngsters scooped a brilliant seven medals, including one gold, at the National Indoor Age Groups championships at Sheffield over the weekend.
Pride of place went to Brighton & Hove’s Amber Anning who in her first year in the U20 age group romped away with the 400m title in a new indoor pb of 54.55s which suggests that she looks well in line for another stunning track season.
In the same age group club mate Tom Eames was one of six Sussex athletes who came back to Sussex with a bronze medal. In a tactical 1500m Eames, who has been running cross-country as well this season was outsprinted and squeezed to finish third in 4:04.96s.
Shot putter Daniel James Thomas from Eastbourne heaved the shot 15.38m in the U20 events for his bronze while in the U17 age group club mate Moyo Daramola picked up his bronze in the 400m clocking 50.31s.
Seb Wallace (Horsham) leapt 6.07m for his bronze in the U17 long jump and nearly took another when he was squeezed into fourth place in the 60m hurdles in 8.73s.
There were double bronze medals for Crawley athletes Millie Noyce and Katie Bristowe in the U17 age group with Noyce heaving the shot 13.02m and Bristowe clocking 8.72s in the 60m hurdles.
There were near misses for Horsham’s Harry Baker who cleared 2.03m in the U20 high jump and Emilie Oakden from Lewes in the U15 pole vault clearing 2.51m where they both placed fourth while Crawley high jumper Lillie Franks cleared 1.69m in the U20 high jump for fifth place.
Dan Dearden (Horsham) also took fifth place when clearing 3.21m in the U17 pole vault and Natasha Purchas from Crawley cleared 3.45m in the U20 pole vault to place sixth as did fellow Crawley athlete Adam Lindo in the U17 long jump where he leapt 6.42m.
There were three seventh placings, Harry Reinecker-Found (Brighton & Hove) who cleared 1.81m in the U20 high jump, Natasha Clarke (Lewes) who cleared 2.31m in the U15 pole vault and Chloe Tomlinson (Horsham) who leapt 5.23m in the U15 long jump with Ruby Jerges (Crawley) just one centimetre adrift in eighth place.
Ruby Anning (Brighton & Hove) reached the semi-final of the 60m U15 sprint and just failed to make the, five athlete, final of the 200m with ` PB of 26.02s.
