June Jessop

20 April, 2019 By Sussex AA

It is with great regret that we have to record the death of Sussex timekeeper June Jessop.

June unfortunately passed away on Thursday 18th April, aged 77, just over a week after being admitted to the nursing home after spending 2 and half weeks in hospital.

June was diagnosed with cancer just before Christmas but due to complications the surgeons were unable to operate and it advanced very quickly.

June initially attended athletics events to support her husband David during the mid-1980's, who at the time spent many weekends and evenings officiating for Ealing and Southall AC, which eventually merged with Middlesex Ladies to become Ealing Southall and Middlesex AC. June at this time would support by volunteering at events in the capacity of a track judge. June would undertake this role at many meetings over the years until in 1999 they moved to Selsey when David and June would assist at events in Sussex.

June was better known in Sussex as a timekeeper at the County track and field plus many West Sussex events both track and Cross-country events with former husband David.

After David's passing in 2014 June kept up her support of athletics by attending the County Champs at Crawley and also the winter sportshall events at Tanbridge House.
