Arena 80/Sussex AA Young Athlete Grant reopens

1 May, 2022 By Melanie Anning

Applications for the 2022 Arena 80/ Sussex AA - Young Athlete Grant are now open.

Talented athletes aged 14-18 experiencing genuine hardship, for whom a grant will make an essential difference, can apply and may receive an award of up to £250. Athletes must represent a Sussex AA affiliated club.

Last year the first two recipients of the new fund received their grants in October. The parent of one said: “Thank you so much for the award. My daughter is absolutely thrilled, and I’m very grateful too. It will make a big difference.”

Chris Naylor of Arena 80 AC, whose club initiated the grant, said, “Today's young athletes will one day be running for clubs such as ours. We felt it was important to support young talent at an age when we lose so many in our sport.

“We hope these grants will give opportunities to athletes that they might otherwise not have, to help with training costs, kit and equipment, enter competitions or access physio.

“We’re asking all clubs, particularly other Adult Road Running clubs in Sussex, to support the fund so that we (in partnership with Sussex AA) can extend the number of grants for young athletes in need".
