It was Horsham’s Andy Robinson (pictured) who sprinted clear over the final fifty metres to hand over some ten metres clear of the home team’s James Baker with Crawley’s Louis Jones just managing to hold off Brighton & Hove’s Andrew Donno for third place while Josh Guilmant (Phoenix) who set the early pace filling fifth place for a real quality start to the race.
Richard Airey took Brighton & Hove into a good lead on the second leg ahead of Phoenix’s Under 17 runner Finn McNally, who probably had his best run for a year or more, while Adam Clarke (Hastings) also had a fine run to move into third place.
On lap three Dave Boyce put Brighton & Hove in an unassailable position and indeed it was club mate James McCarthy, running the final leg of the Under 17 team, who was actually in second place ahead of the Hastings and Phoenix senior teams.
Bryan Brett did not let up on the final circuit and although Matt Barrie closed more than one hundred metres he was still a similar distance adrift with Stefan Emary anchoring Hastings to third place.
Andy Robinson chalked up the fastest time of the day in 12:07 with James 12:11 and Louis 12:22 second and third fastest.
A steady run from Sarah Wigmore on the first lap of the Women’s three lap race ahead of Brighton & Hove’s Under 17 team’s Holly Horsley set veteran Wendy Spannagl off with a comfortable lead which she duly increased before handing over to Louise Hoyte (pictured).
Despite an unbeatable lead Louise still managed to notch up the days fastest time in 14:52 still well clear of Brighton & Hove.
In the Under 17 age group Worthing won the Women’s title with Brittany Savile running the fastest leg and setting a new record of 14:57 and Brighton & Hove the Men’s with James McCarthy clocking 12:59 for the fastest lap.
Jo Spannagl from Horsham run the fastest Under 15 lap with Crawley taking the Girls team title with Brighton & Hove taking the boys title and Charlie Grice (Phoenix) despite having his right arm in plaster clocking 9:21 for fastest lap time.
The Under 13 titles went to Worthing (Girls) and Hastings with Brighton & Hove’s Emma Dixon running the fastest girls lap in 10:47 and Hastings’ Charlie Joslin-Allen the Boys in 9:29.
