This weekend is one of the most important of the season for the main body of senior school athletes as the County Schools championships clash with the Senior and U20 Area championships.
Most Sussex eyes are likely to be focussed on the K2 Leisure Centre at Crawley and the 85th Sussex Schools Championships.
Many young athletes will already have survived their Area championships and the cream of these will be aiming for one of the sixty athletes who will gain a place in the Sussex Schools team to compete in the English Schools championships at Birmingham next month.
The meeting starts with the hammer throwing at 9.30 and the pole vault following shortly after while the track events start at 10.45.
The clash with the Area championships will mean that many of the top Seniors (U19) will be missing from the Schools events as they, understandably, will be seeking improved competition, which is unfortunate, but several will be in a quest for an English Schools standard they need to qualify for the Sussex team.
Many of the top Sussex County senior and U20 athletes will have to travel to Bedford for this year’s South of England Championships which is being held over both Saturday and Sunday.
