Sussex Battle at Christ's Hospital

The Big Guns of Essex, Hants, Kent and Surrey stole the thunder in the South East of England Schools Year Seven and Year Eight Cross Country Championships at Christ’s Hospital School, Horsham on Saturday.

The four top teams won one age group each with Surrey taking the Year 7 girls from Kent and Sussex in third team spot - their best placing of the afternoon and excellent to get the better of two of the big teams.

 Lily Slack from Kent was a good winner in this age group but it was a good race for the Sussex runners with Dulcie Yelling leading the pack in sixth place, one place ahead of Anna Fox with Isabelle Chappell ninth. Stephanie Shaw, 20th Xanthe Cox was 22nd and Rae Le Fay closed in the scoring six in 42nd place.

In the Boys' race, Hampshire took the title with Sussex in 6th place. James Lewis from Hants won gold with Archie Turner placing 18th and Charlie Leedam 19th and Jade Clayton 31st.

The Year Eight girls saw Essex taking the title and Sussex the 7th team with Robyn Fossa (Hants) taking the individual crown. Sussex' Mollie Barnett came home in 28th and Bea Ingles 32nd.

It was an excellent fifth place for Sussex boys in the Year Eight race behind Kent with Will Steadman (Essex) taking the individual race and Luke Newton heading the Sussex runners in 10th just one place ahead of Lewis Goodwin. And Louis Howard in 27th and Charlie Ferris 24th,
