Tremendous results for Sussex at Loughborough

A tremendous day for Sussex, at the Inter-counties cross country championships at Prestwold Hall in Loughborough, on Saturday saw one gold medal for Bethany Cook and four Top Ten team places.

Both the U17 teams finished a splendid fifth place, the senior men a remarkable seventh and the U15 girls filled ninth place  - all significant team performances.

The course was really tough with mud that Dave Leach, the men’s team manager, described as, “the worst I’ve seen this century”.

Four medals for Sussex at National Championships

Sussex youngsters scooped up four medals, one gold and three bronze, on the first day of a busy weekend’s athletics. Brighton & Hove’s Amber Anning took the U20 400m title and club mate Tom Eames the bronze in the U20 1500m with Eastbourne’s Moyo Daramola the bronze in the U17 400m at Sheffield. While Brighton Phoenix’s Almi Nerurkar was a shining light on a rather quiet day for Sussex at Parliament Hill with a splendid bronze in the U17 National Cross-country Championships.

A set of medals at weekend's National Championships

Thanks very much to Martin Etchells who had a very busy weekend as Meeting Director for the Sussex Indoor championships and then produced reports while I was sans computer for several days.

There were few medals for Sussex athletes at the weekend’s National Indoor championships at Birmingham and the BUCS Championships at Sheffield.

Just one gold medal and that fell to County 400m hurdles record holder Bethany Close who forsook the hurdles and raced to a clear cut 200m victory in 24.35s.
