A Muddy Good Afternoon

“Mud Glorious Mud” welcomed the 500 runners who reported to Bexhill Down on Saturday for the first major cross-country event of the New Year, the Sussex Cross-country championships.
Mud is a great leveller in cross-county events and although we did not see any surprise winners there were some unusual minor placings. The absence of several contenders through illness was obvious in several events.
Both senior winners were heavily tipped before their races but they both produced intriguing battles.

Fast time in Brighton 10k

It was a good day for Sussex athletes in the annual Brighton 10k road race which was held on Sunday after missing last year’s event because of severe weather conditions.

This year the conditions were good and Jonathan Hopkins from Swansea stormed away from a field that by and large lacked the quality that the race usually attracts.

He finished more than one minute ahead of his nearest rival, Crawley’s James Westlake, in a fast time of 29:40s.
