Boxing Day Races

The oldest continuous Road Race to be held in Sussex will be held in Brighton’s Preston Park on Boxing Day.

Although not boasting more than 100 years of Racing like last Saturday’s South of Thames event the “Boxing Day race walk” was introduced by the Brighton Labour club in 1933 and has been held every year, apart from the War years.

Great racing at Lancing

The slightly less cold temperatures for the Sussex Cross-country League races and the firm underfoot conditions made it almost perfect for an afternoon of Cross-country running at Lancing Manor on Saturday.

Total numbers were a little down on the Goodwood and Bexhill events particularly in the Young Athletes races but some may well be saving themselves for next weekend’s Inter-county races.

The Battles of Bexhill

The second of this season’s Sussex Cross-county League matches on Saturday produced more big fields and some good battles at Bexhill Down.

Although mainly damp for most of the afternoon underfoot conditions were good for the notoriously muddy course and apart from the wooded stretches the going was firm.

Four of the seven races winners from Goodwood, last month, were again victorious but it was not all plain sailing.
