Sussex Athletes Shine at the South of England Inter-Counties

Fine performances from Sussex’s leading Under 20 and Under 15 athletes took both teams to fourth place overall at the competitive annual South of England Inter-Counties Championships.

With 16 teams competing at Horspath, including the mighty Essex, Surrey, Hampshire, Kent and Berkshire the Under 15 girls and U20 men performed brilliantly to top their individual groups. In sunny but windy conditions, Sussex had an abundance of finalists across the two age groups and four event winners.

Tough Weekend for Sussex Schools runners

Sussex School’s cross-country runners face a tough time at Leeds this weekend when they compete in the English Schools Cross-country championships in possibly snow at Temple Newsam.

Sussex have lost a couple of their leading runners from Saturday’s race through injuries which makes life even tougher if they are going to get the high team placing that looked possible earlier in the week.

Tremendous results for Sussex at Loughborough

A tremendous day for Sussex, at the Inter-counties cross country championships at Prestwold Hall in Loughborough, on Saturday saw one gold medal for Bethany Cook and four Top Ten team places.

Both the U17 teams finished a splendid fifth place, the senior men a remarkable seventh and the U15 girls filled ninth place  - all significant team performances.

The course was really tough with mud that Dave Leach, the men’s team manager, described as, “the worst I’ve seen this century”.
