Two more golds and Junior Girls win the Championship Shield at the English Schools - Day 2 report

It was a ‘Super Saturday’ for Sussex with two more gold medals and seven additional bronzes at the English Schools’ Championships in Birmingham.

It brought Sussex’s total podium places to a magnificent 15 with a final tally of four gold, two silver and nine bronze medals. In addition the Junior Girls team won the Championship Shield as the highest points scorers for top eight finishes and the Junior Boys were second in their category.  Overall this was Sussex’s best English Schools Championships result in recent history.

Lucky Seven for Sussex at Sheffield

Sussex youngsters scooped a brilliant seven medals, including one gold, at the National Indoor Age Groups championships at Sheffield over the weekend.

Pride of place went to Brighton & Hove’s Amber Anning who in her first year in the U20 age group romped away with the 400m title in a new indoor pb of 54.55s which suggests that she looks well in line for another stunning track season.

Golds for Eames and Jerges at SEAA Champs

There was a clutch of medals, including two golds, for Sussex at the South of England Indoor championships at Lee Valley over the weekend. Primarily it was the Under 15 and Under 17 championships but the Senior and U20 1500 metres events were incorporated to reduce the time at next weekend’s senior and U20 championships at the same venue. The first gold medal came in the U20 championships on Saturday when Brighton & Hove’s Tom Eames, forsook his final chance of an under 17 title at the Sussex Cross-country championships at Bexhill by running in the U20 age group.
