Amber and Ben Strike Gold

There was more glory and medals for Sussex youngsters at the English U15/17 Track and Field championships at Bedford over the weekend including two titles plus three Sussex records.

Again pride of place must go to U17 Worthing thrower Ben Hawkes who retained his unbeaten Hammer record this season with another crushing victory with 71.91m but he also added a silver medal in the discus throw with a personal effort of 52.70m, which is also a new Sussex record. Hawkes very nearly collected another medal in the shot putt placing fourth with 15.24m.

Gemma Vaults to New Heights

Gemma Tutton

Lewes AC's Gemma Tutton has broken the UK under 13 pole vault record for a third time with a magnificent leap of 3.46m.

Competing at her home track on Monday evening as a guest during the Sussex Masters League, Gemma first upped her record of 3.35m, set just last week, by one centimetre.

She then requested that the bar be raised by 10 centimetres to 3.46m, which she duly cleared on her second attempt.

Gemma's achievement means the county under 13 pole vault record is now higher than the under 15 one.
