Fine Racing for Sussex Schools

It was another bumper year for Sussex School's cross-country running when the Championships were held at the Waterhall course in Brighton on Wednesday.

Although it was probably the coldest day so far this year the non-stop sunshine was almost perfect for the runners though underfoot the hard ground became a little slippery as the afternoon progressed.

The sunshine however did not produce much heat and it was a bitterly cold afternoon for the officials.

International selection for Lovell – Preview

Following her splendid second place in the National Indoor pentathlon championship at Sheffield last weekend Elise Lovell from Hastings has been selected to represent Great Britain in the Indoor Pentathlon event at Prague at the end of the month.

Lovell set two personal bests during the competition clocking 8.65s in the 60m hurdles, the opening event, and her total of 3778 was also her best while her long jump of 5.96m was close to her indoor best. Lovell will join Jessica Taylor-Jemmett from Manchester, last weekend’s winner, who is the 2014 Commonwealth Games bronze medallist.

Sussex Schools Cross Country on 18 January at Waterhall

Whilst the weather is currently inclement, it is intended that the Sussex Schools Cross Country will still go ahead unless the organisers deem the course unsafe on the morning of 18th January; if we have to postpone this event the cancellation notice will appear here by 10am on Wednesday 18th January.

Livvy makes it two golds for Sussex - - Mullett sixth in Europe

There was another victory for Sussex Schools at Gateshead on Friday, after I had packed up for the day.

Livvy Connor from BHASVIC, who was the team captain, retained her Senior Pole Vault title so Sussex topped and tailed the first day of the Championships winning gold, through Edan Cole, in the first event of the day and Livvy Connor at the end of the day.

So late was Connor’s victory that the result was still not published until Saturday morning.

Edan Gold

Sussex Schools made a tremendous start to the English Schools track and field championships at Gateshead on Friday morning when Edan Cole won, not only the first Sussex Gold medal of the championships but as the Inter (U17) Boy’s javelin was the first event on the programme he was also the first champion for 2016.

Conditions early in the day were uncomfortable with wind and a torrential shower soon after the meeting got underway.
