Recent Masters activites - Caroline Wood

At Sidcup 10 mile race (incorporating BMAF 10 mile championships) on Sun March 8th

Brighton and Hove's Cathy Ulliott was 2nd BMAF FV50 (68:46) and Arena's Jenny Hughes was 3rd BMAF FV50 (73:49) Brighton and Hove ladies were 2nd BMAF V45-54 team - Cathy Ulliott, Camilla Moyle and Judith Carder who won the FV55 BMAF Silver for her run at Sidcup

For the men Brighton and Hove's Graham Godden was 6th overall and 1st BMAF MV45 with a PB of 55:54 Brighton and Hove men's V45-54 team were second BMAF team - Graham Godden, Mark Halls (61:04) and Tom Ulliott (67:29)

Junior Boy's take Bronze at Blackburn.

A brilliant third place and a fine seventh spot for the junior boy's and senior girl's teams were the highIights for the Sussex Schools squad at the English Schools Cross-country championships at Blackburn.

The weekend.

The seasons clash this weekend when the first of this year’s Pre Season “Open” track and field meetings will be held at Crawley on Saturday.

Entries are being accepted on the day with the Field events starting at 10.30 and the Track events at 11.00.

On Sunday the tough Hastings Half-marathon event will be held starting at 10.20.

Africans do the double at Hastings

Africans again took the honours in the Hastings Half-marathon on Sunday with Sammy Nyokaye (Run Fast) putting some four minutes between himself and Tom Payn (Winchester) clocking 65:27 to 69:32. There was another two minutes before third placed Jeff Pyrah (Hastings) crossed the line in 71:56 and he was the first M40 runner to finish as well as the first Sussex runner to finish.

The leaders were well spaced out with more than ten minutes covering the first ten runners to finish.

Baker for Britain

Hastings athlete Grace Baker is the only Sussex runner selected in the Great Britain and NI team for the World Cross-country Championships at Guiyang in China at the end of the month.
Last weekend Baker, who has strung together a fine series of races this year, finished fourth in the junior race at the Inter-county Cross-country at Birmingham, which double as the Trials last weekend.

Sussex Schools teams off to Blackburn -10km walk championships

The Sussex Schools squad will travel to Blackburn on Friday for the English Schools Cross-country championships minus three of their top performers.

Archie Davis who was planning a good run in the intermediate race and a place in the International team has had to withdraw as his fine run in the Indoor 800 metre Championships a couple of weeks back has earnt him Indoor international selection, which is great.

Good Day for Sussex at C.A.U

Brilliant running from Grace Baker, Ben Tickner, Almi Nerurkar and Stephen Ferroni gained Top Ten places and highlighted one of the most successful years for Sussex teams in the Inter-counties for many years.

Sussex managed to complete teams in all ten races at Crofton Park, Birmingham, something that is not always the case and seven of the ten Sussex teams in action were in the top twelve places amongst the forty competing counties.

Emanuel and Grice through to Finals in Prague

Lee Emanuel had an excellent race in the 3,000 metres in the European Indoor Championships in Prague yesterday.

Always looking comfortable Emanuel took second place in his heat in 7:52.39s just a couple of metres behind title favourite Richard Ringer from Germany.

Emanuel will be racing in the final at 6.45 this evening.

On Saturday morning Charlie Grice cruised into the final of the 1,500m.

In a leisurely and purely tactical race Grice always appeared in control and crossed the finishing line comfortably clear of his nearest rival of 3:48.98s.
